I plan on getting some new tv's in the near future so I was in best buy recently looking. I like the LCD's because I want to hang them on the wall, and of the 1080p LCD's I looked at, I thought the samsung easily had the best picture. I know you didn't ask for my opinion, but you're getting it anyway!

I believe a plasma is better than both! There is a lot to learn when you are looking for a TV now days. But a bought a sony rear projection SXRD because of the price. There were a lot of deals before the superbowl. The tv I bought 2 weeks ago is now $700 more than I paid. Watch the ads, and check online. I got a deal from circuit city that was not advertised, but showed up on their website.

If ya wind up with a lcd make sure it has 120hz tuner in it so it can keep up with the Blue Ray players as far as the motion scenes. Samsung,Sony &Mitsubishi are the only ones that I know of right now that has them.
Frys has the best price on all three that I have seen so far,I looked at the Samsung last week and it had a stunning picture. They were running a Blue Ray dvd at the time and I think it will be my next choice. The 50in. that is.
Good luck!

I have a samsung DLP, awesome picture on it. Prices are a lot cheaper than the LCD. I bought my dad an LCD this year and it has a great picture. If you have a room with a lot of light the LCD is the way to go, there is no glare on them.
I have been hearing of problems with the plasmas, lots of heat. I got a buddy of mine one last year and the screen actually popped and cracked on him. Luckily it was under warranty and he got a new one, upgrade at that for free.
I work for Samsung and get some awesome deals on those things.

I've done a lot of research on this subject over the last month since my wife and I will be buying a larger TV for our soon-to-be new house.
First off, stay away from Plasma. I'm assuming you've already figured that out since you've only asked about LCD and DLP.
If you're going to mount the TV directly to a wall, then LCD should be all you're looking at.
If the TV will be mounted on a stand/table, then there are a couple key items to consider. For starters, does the TV have a built in HD Tuner (probably so). The Samsungs are the best LCD's out there. They have the highest Constrast Ratio's for the price. To get the best quality, go with a TV that has 1080P. The only problem i've found on the Samsungs LCD's are the tuners. A friend of mine (he's a TV Guru/Geek) swears by Samsungs, but the only problem he has with his LCD is pixelation. When you're watching something with fast moving detail, like a waterfall, golfball/football/etc... you'll see a lot of pixelation around the object. This doesn't occur with HD video games on his TV, just while watching HD Television. A DLP won't have that pixelation problem. "It's the Mirror's"....As far as DLP goes, you might have to replace a $250 bulb every 3 years or so...
In the end, they're both great TV's and you probably won't go wrong with either one of them.

Just for the record they have come out with LED light technology for the DLP and it is supposed to last a much longer time than the standard DLP. That being said, they are more expensive than the standard DLP TV as of right now. I'd imagine the standard will be obsolete in retail outlets in 2 years or less..
I've been contemplating the 56" Samsung DLP for awhile now but pulled back the reigns when I saw the LED light technology and am waiting for the price to go down. Hopefully they go down before the first Texas game next college football season.
