    45-70

I know on Moser's thread there were several of you who had this rifle. Which one do you have and what are some of the pro's and con's you have encountered with it?

I am leaning hard on getting a Marlin 1895GS Guide Gun SS in 45/70.

Hey Jason I have the Marlin 1895 Guide Gun in SS. I haven't shot it much but it shoots well and makes a really big hole. If you want to shoot it before you buy one let me know.

I've shot the 45-70 in the BFR Revolver and the 1895GS. Some pros I can think of is that reloading for it is easy, bullets are cheap, and if you go lead bullets you can go even cheaper. Recoil is fairly light, in either gun. Of course this coming from a guy who hunted small game with a .458 win mag

Some cons I can think of off the top of my head is that I don't really like how a lever gun looks with a scope, open sights are a limiting factor, and the loop around the trigger can start to get annoying after a few shots from it hitting your hand. It'll hurt after a while.

I've got the same infatuation with the stainless Guide Gun. Always wanted a 450.

I have the BFR and the 1895GS.

To me the downside of the lever gun is that its heavy and does not hold but a few shells.

I would look at the Puma 454 casull. More knockdown, more ammo, less recoil, in a lighter package what else could you want?

Gezzzz quad how many 45-70's do you need in a gun? After one shot all the animals that don't hit the ground run for two days.

You've got a new camera that you haven't figured out, a new cell phone that has more buttons than you have fingers and a bow that you never shoot....

                    And.....

You didn't make it two days before you violated the quote in my sig...and now you're launching a new project.....wow....

You may really be the economic stimuli that the Republicans need to win this election.....

                          MARLIN 1895!!! MY FAVORITE RIFLE!!!

Bought it a few years ago. I have a 30-06, but wanted a brush gun that could tackle just about anything N America has to offer. 'Sides that, I LOVE the thought of shootin 400 grains of lead at stuff ... 2x lumber, plywood, watermelon, hogs, deer, etc. Didn't scope it 'cos I only planned on shootin out to about 50-75yds. The new LeverRevolution ammo is 'sposed to reach out a whole lot further if such is your interest.

Mine has the 22" barrel. Mine recoils less than my Marlin 336 .30-30. Everybody is scared to shoulder it at first, then are shocked at the recoil!

Mine was dubbed "El Whompo" by some huntin buddies 'cos the size of the bullet, exit hole, and "BOOM" when fired!

Can't go wrong with it. Limbsaver could reduce the recoil even more if you drop down and shoot the 305 grn.

Bottom line ... great choice in a firearm. You'll get a kick outta it!

                            Tom Horn shot a 45-60.

I have a Winchester 45-70 that was manufactured in 1892 according to the book. It shoots sweet. That thing is heavy! And it will leave a big hole in whatever you shoot.
