Is it just me, or is there a lack of Red, White, and Blue in the olympic uniforms? I saw the swimmers and gymnastic athletes getting their medals wearing a funny space suit that reminded me of a rain suit. It was gray and black. I see tons of black. I actually watched one sport for 10-15 minutes voting for the wrong team before I realized which team we were.

it's a controversy every four years. some designer or sports company has to make a statement with the unis so they have to be avant garde and cool, etc.
I'd love to sit in on those meetings.
"How about we go with, um, you know, red, white and blue?"
"What?! Are you crazy? That's so outdated."
sigh...

Yes I have been very disappointed in general with our uniforms from the Opening Ceremony to the Medal Ceremonies. I will say that some of the teams I have watched were in Red and Blue at least, volleyball (beach and indoor), table tennis, etc.

Nike made them grey so the athletes would "shine" on the medal stand. I like navy in an athletic uniform as much as anybody, but navy to me is not one of our colors.
Yahoo Sports Article about it
Nike picked the color because the company says it glows on the medal stand and lets the audience see just how bright America's athletes can shine. The jacket is "finished off with a hyper reflective shell that burns bright under the most subtle lights."

If a company can make a good quality product at a reasonable price, country of origin is not worth worrying about. Yes, even for our national Olympic uniforms.
