It truly is hard to say without being in the situation, but my main priority is the safety of me and my family. I would have to say that getting them to safety is number one and I'm only drawing if the gunman stands between me and the door. I didn't get a chl to play the hero, I got it to protect my own. Plus I don't feel like getting shot in the process by someone else for being mistaken as an accomplice.

Well unless a person has been there and done that they don't really know what they would do.So I suppose a person can go through life with somewhat of a plan in case they are faced with a terrible scenerio like that and hope to never have to find out what they would do.

As a CHL holder I have two choices, (1) Run, (2) Take care of business and kill (yes I said kill) the gunman. Which one would I want to live with? Consider these in your split-second decision:

If there is a law officer in the theater, he would probably jump up first. LEOs are trained to act quickly in Active Shooter engagements. If you start shooting first, the LEO may mistake you for another gunman and he may not have time to tell you to put your gun down. If there are other CHL holders in there and you start shooting, they may mistake you/each other for another gunman. Bad scene either way. Do you want to keep waiting as people die? Decision: Perhaps take your chances, yell POLICE, shoot the perp and hope you won't won't get shot by the perp or the good guys.

I hope I never have to face that choice. If I do, I'll make the decision that seems right at the time and live with it. 'Nuff said.

A lot of people, even ones who have a CHL, will not go to the fight, as they have not been trained to do so. I would guess, only those with military/LEO training would go to the fight. I know when I received training in response to school shootings, we were trained to go to the fight. Some of the younger officers had a little trouble doing so.
