A bounty on hogs is a very good idea!!!

Tax the animal shelters $10 for every animal they take in and another $10 for everyone they adopt out to fund the bounty system on the hogs. Then use licensed hunters as the management tool of choice.

I don't believe hunters can solve the problem by killing more hogs.
There already is no season, no bag limit, nothing to restrict the killing of hogs and millions of Texas hunters can't even put a dent in the population now.

You kill one hog and you just opened up the carrying capacity of the land to support a whole litter more.

I don't know what the answer is but more taxes and more money to TPWD isn't likely to help.

I agree Texas license fees and regulations are already way over board.

Don't get me started on the archery stamp...

There are a ton of points being missed here. I will type SLOW so you guys might get a chance to understand.

Basically, the hypothetical is to create a pot that would be optional for the hunter. He would be able to take his kills in and get paid for them. No bag limit, no tag. When the money is gone, it's gone.

That is the way I read it anyway but I do have exceptional reasoning skills.

You also have exceptional context clue capabilities Mr. Big Iron sir. You deduced from the context of the OP what he was saying. I believe you grasped it, and most of the other ones missed it, lol....

It would be great, if it would work that way. The problem is government always finds a way to get their hands on everything. If Texas can keep it as the same idea it's set for, it would be great sir.

A $10 bounty on hogs would be just as effective at controlling them as the bounty was on 'yotes.

TPWD does a better job than most state wildlife agencies when it comes to taking care of the outdoors people of the state.

I say that with the caviot that I have only lived in Texas and hunted in NM and Canada.

Hunting in Canada is a cluster-fuzzle! If you are a Canadien Citizen then the rest of the paid hunters get to suk hind-tail. It is all pretty much government or "crown" land. Hardly any private land.

NM was pretty nice other than the short seasons.

If TPWD wants to propose a bounty for hogs I will listen. Something needs to be done or we will all be in for some serious long term negative effects. It will get worse.

In fact I think that through TPWD is the only way anything will get done. They manage wildlife, no one else, other than private land owners which gets us back to the original problem. Heck some places are bringing in hogs to sell to hunters that are willing to pay.

I think they are shooting themselves in the foot, long term.

More than likely it will come down to money and lobbyist and who pays more to represent their interest.

Pay $10 for a stamp and get a $10 bounty for each one turned in? Where is the extra money going to come from to pay the bounty above what was collected by the state? What is going to be done with the carcases of all the hogs turned in? They can't be given as charity if they are turned in dead. BAD IDEA

The idea would need some refining for sure, but it is a start!

I would also suggest instead of bringing in the entire carcus and pair of ears or tail would suffice.

So if I wanted to donate meat to Hunters For the Hungry, I would have to bring it in a cage? Might want to check your math there, Hot Rod.
