    Scent blocker questions . . . .

Who here uses scent blockers? And your thoughts on them.

This will be my first season hunting in a few years, and it seems like there is a ton of hype on scent blockers. I have never used them in the past, and in days past, hunting with my grandad . . . . in blue jeans, a sweatshirt and a hat . . and that old man took more deer than any 2 people I have ever met in my life.

The only 'scent' I have ever seen him use, was urine harvested from a female and used it towards the end of a rut.

Any opinions on this stuff would be greatly appreciated.

going to get a ton of responses...most different than the next.. all kinds of contraptions, sprays, soaps, scents, body suits, clothing..etc...
None of them will work if you don't effectively play the wind

Overrated IMO. The best thing you can do is play the wind. I love the hunting shows where the celebrity decked out in expensive scent block clothing given to them by their sponsors say "he must have just cought enough of our wind...." right before the deer runs off after not getting a shot!!

No need to spend that much on camo!!!!

        PLAY THE WIND

I have killed more deer in a t-shirt and jeans than I have in camo.

          Yeah, that's what I figured.

My grandfather always used a bottle of powder to check the wind. I don;t think we ever hunted in camo, to think about it. Just jeans and sweatshirts.

Appreciate all of the input, guys.

          Many thanks.

I fell for the gimmick... Bought a set of Dream Season... Tops and bottoms. What a joke... About a year after I bought them, there was a lawsuit against them for false advertising. I don't know or never heard what the outcome of the lawsuit was...

it's a lot cheaper to just play the wind.

Love the stuff! Just wish I could afford it.

                imho doesn't work

cool looking stuff . . . . especially the bone collector and dream season stencil

but that hasn't killed anything. Candidly the more i pay attention to wind the better I do, only thing I've found that helps is an ozonics. I'd rather buy cheap camo (candidly I wear a lot of black) work the wind and use an ozonics.

One area that I know has an effect and I need to do better is paying attention to the wind in and out of my hunting spot. . . not just at the set up.

1st the carbon clothing works some of the time, so does stepping in cow crap, cedar, etc. Everything works some times, nothing works all the time. I have had best luck with the silver lined clothing, showering before every hunt, and putting out a little vanilla. As for the play the wind guys, I am not sure where you hunt, but where I hunt the wind blows out of every direction all the time. Have you ever sat around a camp fire? Sit for 10 minutes and everyone sitting around it will be in the smoke at some point. I try and play the dominant wind, but know that I am going to have the wind blow wrong at some point.

I use a smoker similar to what bee keepers use to smoke myself and my clothes as a cover scent. Havent had any reason to believe it was more bad than good but I have had a few get pretty close to me so I think it works. Wether it's just in my head or not I like it an it's part of my routine so I'm gonna stick to it.......it's cheaper too

It's all about wind direction and blind set up. It might masks some of the stench but not all of it. I'm like Spoken, I always smoke my close out the night before and then lay them in the cedar trees.

I wear some but just because I liked the garment and I got it on sale. Don't believe it really works any better than any other. But I do wash all my hunting clothes in scent free soap, and the rest of the routine.

Although, I read an article that compared a man with no shower, then scent free shower and scent killer and then same with a cover scent (acorn, skunk). Man gets in box and drug dog (German Shepard) goes at it. Instantly found the guy in first 2 scenarios but the scent cover delayed dog by (don't quote me) I think 20 seconds. Interesting.

Haven't hunted without my Scent-Lok in several years. Have no plan to start either. Has always performed well for me.

If you're dumb enough to let those companies take your money, then go right ahead. If you aren't, good for you.

Keep yourself and your clothes clean, most important hunt the wind. You still have to breath and as I understand it, thats where a lot of oder emits, still gotta breath.
