Chaining works in wet clay soils or real sandy soil. If you have hard clay ground and chain it your just going to **** it off.

400ac wouldn't be a problem for a D6, I'd push about 250-300ac of it into piles and let it dry then leave 1/2 - 1ac mottes across the property, about 200-300yds apart for deer/quail to utilize and make the place better for them if your going the wildlife angle. If livestock then about a 100ac more on those recomendations above.

How big are the trees on the place and what is the density? Grubbing is faster but you need to keep it under 100 plants and acre to make it worth while.

Ten years ago I use to trade a guy a burlap sack of mesquite for an ice chest of lobsters 3 or 4 times a year.

He was from Massachusetts and said mesquite wood cost a lot more than lobster in Boston!

I would strongly advise you to not have someone come in and shred it. On this place I am living my boss had the pasture shredded and chipped and now there is no way to drive across the pasture without getting a flat.

Two years ago cut a load of mesquite for my personal grilling. Pile is getting low. Making plans to get another load.
I had an M1 Garand stock set made from mesquite.

Absolutely love the stock...I would love to have one made for a rifle or two. I'm thinking we could just start by getting a load and hauling it back to see how quick we can move it.

                        Thanks
This one cost about $150 but it was in semi inletted condition.
Jezzz, must have spent 30 hours to finnish it.
Boyd's Stocks will do a custom one with your wood.
                        Next time I pay more.
Have a couple more blanks that need work before they could be used. Once ya get into the interior, never know what ya might find, like voids and splits.
Good figure down by the root ball.

Biggest deer I ever killed was in a 1/2 section of a mesquite patch. It's also good for grillin'(not smoking, it burns too hot). If you use remedy, you need to spray the leaves, not the trunk.

You better put slime in your tires before you go, unless you drive a Cat with tracks.

Hunt it and kill the bucks that eat the mesquite bean. As Travis says......"mesquite country is where the big boys hang out".

                                AMEN BILLY!

I would leave the straightest pieces whole and sell them to a mill. Cut the crooked pieces for firewood.
