I started having pain in my right shoulder last year and it progressively got worse. My doctor moved my arm to different positions looking for pain but didn't think it was enough to be a torn rotator cuff. I do have pain with it in certain positions and one is when I draw my bow. Are there any exercises that can be done to help this? I don't know if it's bad enough to get it worked on at this point.

go lite on the weights, bill. i refused rotater cuff surgery (14 yrs ago), because my work load didnt allow for the time off. changed my weight lifting routine from heavy to light, and used a lot of different shoulder exercises. today i am pain free, not as strong as before but pain free. good luck

i have the same problem, just haven't gone to the doc about it. Sometimes I wake up with a 'dead arm' and can't move it for a while. Its my left shoulder. I waxed on a mountain bike 15 or so years ago and landed on said shoulder. Hasn't been the same since.
Sounds weird, but when I can convince my DGF to stand/put her weight on it (while I lay face down, arms at my side, between the blade and shoulder) the discomfort goes away for a few weeks.
I am clueless to what is wrong, but this works for me.

I am always afraid of this issue because I have a tiny pain every now and then and I really don't ever want to shoot a crossbow. Anyway, I suggest that you compensate for this issue by building your muscles. Do alot of stretches and then start doing various types of shoulder exercise with dumbell weights (Forward and Side Arm raises). If you go to the gym, there is one machine that allows you to sit down lift your arms behind your back (reach back) and move the weight from behind to forward. (not sure I explained it right). There is also some type of rubber band thingy you can purchase if you don't want to mess with weights. Good luck.

I experience the same kind of pain. I am 42 and I cross fit. Due to the exercises I thought I had a tear or strained rotator cuff also. Why? Because it is a common injury and a diagnosis thrown out there by everyone. Go see an ortho and see what he or she says. Mine turned out to be bone spurs. What a relief. I'm going to need surgery but at least now I know what it is.

the exersices (RED) posted is the best i spend a lot of time in the gym and have had my issues with RC injuryes, after lots of research on how to streach the RC out to get the best results was those exercises in the above post, also ICEY/HOT helps but the best is light exercises and time off...

I'm sorry to hear your shoulder is getting worse, Bill.
The best shoulder doc in BCS is Dr. O'Shay at Scott and White. But, personally, I would recommend 2-4 trips to a great physical therapist, Dr. Amanda Lightsey at Scott and White Physical Therapy. In the first trip she knows exactly what is wrong and prescribes the right exercises.
A lot of the exercises above are good, but if you start off with too much, you could wind up under the knife to fix it. If you have a repetitive motion injury, most of those exercises will create more damage.
