It's neither possible nor desirable. In most cases, the poster has a good idea why, and an explanation is only inviting argument (as I suspect this explanation will, as well). Remember, rarely does anybody agree with an infraction or a post being deleted. Many times, a thread is deleted because we (I) feel that it's simply not moving the site forward in a positive direction. Trust me when I tell you that nobody wants to hear that their post "didn't add value", regardless of how true it may be.
Additionally, many posts/threads are deleted due to an accumulation of posts that cause the topic to spiral downhill. Sometimes because we simply don't have the time or desire to clean up the individual posts, the entire thread becomes a casualty. If we don't have time to clean it up, we definitely don't have time to offer explanation to everybody on the thread as to why it was moderated.
Most moderating is done by "feel", and I'll readily admit that some things we overlook today we may not let go tomorrow. We have guidelines in place for the members and the moderators to try to achieve an overall direction for the site (positive, encouraging, educational, original, etc.). It may not be perfect, but it's been a pretty good forumula so far.
If there is too much work, I would like to volunteer my services as moderator. I can whip this folks in shape
I bet the moderators have a good laugh before they drop the hammer on a thread. Probably kicked back with a cigar and a cold beer.
You would be surprised that it is quite the opposite of this.
No one likes dealing with this stuff and we would all rather put our time into building better features and making money or posting on threads at the very least.
It would be cool to have a status bar for the fouls
