As most of you know (all of you should know), we have a policy prohibiting publicly questioning moderators. That policy is in place because we, as moderators, have a policy of not discussing infractions, bans or moderating decisions publicly, as well.
The growing problem, recently, is that members that don't agree with an infraction or moderated post/thread (trust me, rarely does anybody agree when a moderating decision affects them) are deciding to openly criticize moderating decisions on the site, via social networking sites, texts, etc. in an effort to rally fellow members around their "cause."
The frustration is that IN EVERY CASE they fail to provide all of the details of the infraction or prior history of similar conduct that resulted in a post being deleted, an infraction being given, or a reslulting ban.
Keep in mind that there are almost zero instances where a single infraction will result in a ban. Infractions are on a point system, and an accumulation of points for multiple infractions will ultimately result in a ban. So when you see that a user was banned for a single, "misunderstood" insult to another member (one point infraction), the real question should be what additional offenses in the past precipitated the other 2-5 point accumulation.
I'm frustrated that so many of you are quick to judge moderating decision as unfair when you have no knowledge (or worse, only a one-sided version) of the history that led to the moderating decision
In short, if it doesn't directly involve you, it's none of your business. To continue referencing former members that have been banned, for whatever reason, is classless.
