Which resort in Playa del Carmen/Riviera Maya???

Wife and I are wanting to go to an all-inclusive resort on the Riviera Maya for our 10 year wedding anniversary this July. We want a relaxing but fun get-away. Don't want a wild college party atmosphere, but not just a dull place geared toward old blue hairs. Do y'all have any recommendations of what resort(s) to consider or to stay away from? Personal experiences would be appreciated. We're really excited. We've never done a vacation like this.

The best ------ El Dorado Royale! It caters to couples. First class! We didn't see any teenagers and we were there for our honeymoon. I know couples that have been back 5 times and some even more.

El Dorado Royale. If you can afford it, get the cabanas. The food is the best I've had in Mexico

I stayed at one of the RIU properties and loved it...stayed at one in Cabo also. both were great. However, I have heard only great things about El Dorado. I will go there next time I'm in playa

We stayed at The El Dorado Casitas Royale (adults only) it was very nice, but wasnt very impressed with the beach area....The Hotel Riu Palace Riviera Maya, which is for all and 5.5 stars, is extremely nice with great beach area.

We went to El Dorado as well and enjoyed it.

My wife loves to dance and was a little disappointed in the night life (basically there wasnt any).. maybe because 99% of the folks there are honeymooning

we went to Azul beach and it was awesome. Small but low key.

Awesome food. i should have eaten more. Service unreal.

the resort to the right of Azul was an adult swingers club. This is not a good thing, but they stayed on their side.

We went to El Dorado Royale for our honeymoon and it was awesome! My sister and bro in law went years later and it was still awesome.

We all went to The Excellence Playa Mujeres 2 years ago and it was equally awesome.

Food selection was a little better at EDR but the distance from Cancun airport is a little further, also the rip-tide there sucks. They have a lagoon built with sand bags, but it's not quite like the ocean. The beach at Excellence is great, and has a Greg Norman signature golf course 2 minutes away, and it's only like 15 minutes from the airport. You can not go wrong with either one.

I'll give you a report on the Royal Playa Del Carmen in about a month.

This is where the wife and I stayed some years back.

Have ZERO complaints about the place and highly recommend it to anyone.
