I have helped some in need at convenence stores before. But i have seen some that are there every few weeks like on a rotation or something. When i see them walking up or if someone i feel are scamming......i turn walk towards them and ask ..hey do you have any money to spare i need to buy some snuff and i am totally broke....they turn real fast its funny.

Offer to buy them luch if they tell you they are hungry and most just want the money, they tell you they need money for gas and most will not let you put gas in their vehicle, they want the money and if their sign says need work or money, offer them work and they will decline, they only want money. The news has done several exposes on these folks and they make quiet a lot of money panhandling in a lot of the big towns on the street corners on in a big mall parking lot.

The thing I learned about stewardship is that while that money isin my possession it's up to me to discern what to do with it. Once I give it away it becomes the other persons responsibility to be a good steward of it. It's not my responsibility to dictate or determine if they will use it wisely.
And I explain this to the recipient. They can use that money for beer, drugs, smokes or sex, or they can use it wisely & allow God to bless them.

I always offer to get them lunch, or gas, or something to drink, or whatever it is they "need" the money for. Out of probably 50 people, just a handfull have ever accepted the offer. To me that's just stupid. I know you want cash for beer, but at least get a free meal out of the deal. The few that have taken me up on always left with some cash too. If they need food and accept food, then I figure their story may be true, and I'd hate the feeling I'd have if I didn't try and help. You did the right thing, by giving them gas and calling them on it

I would rather get scammed out of a few bucks then turn down the one person who is in a bind. The ones who almost seem embarrassed asking are more times then not the ones who really need help.
I helped a guy who needed gas for his car because he came up to me and my husband when we were at the car wash and volunteered to wash my truck. I told him he could have whatever change was left over after washing it. He did a real good job and then went straight over to the gas station across the street. He said his brother died and he was trying to get to Houston. He wasn't embarrassed to ask, but he offered work first.
I left a restaurant in OKC one time with leftovers from a $50 meal. A homeless guy came up to me and asked if he could have the food. It was probably too rich for his starved system, but how could anyone say no?
