This afternoon I had to take a tractor tire back to my MILs and I stopped at the little store in Medina for a fountain drink. There was an old van at the gas pump with 3 old, pretty ratty looking females inside it-not getting gas or anything, just sitting in the van, kinda looking around. My sensor started buzzing already. I go into the store, pay for my drink, and when I walk out, one of the ladies (and I use the term loosely) asked for some money for gas so they could drive back to Kerrville, which was about 20 miles or so. I happened to have 5gallons of gas in the can in my truck, so instead of giving cash, I told her I would give them some gas. I had parked right beside them and got the fuel can, and a started putting fuel in the van when the same lady that asked me for money, got out of the van and followed and man who just left the store to his truck. After talking to him for a minute, he hands her some money, and she walks back in get in the van, never really saying anything to me at all-( after all, I'm only putting fuel in her car) Anyway, I start to get the idea what's happening and stop after putting in 2-3 gallons and say them them, that should do it. Again, they didn't say anything. I put the can back in the truck and am watching them over the bed, while securing the can. The lady who had just gotten more money from the guy, passed the cash to the other lady in the back of the van, who then got out and walked inside the store. I'm now wondering what she is going to buy? I could not help myself, and followed her into the store. She went to the restroom. While I am standing there, I glanced out the window to see another man donating some money to them. She came out and walked up to the counter, spoke to the cashier and asked for cigarettes. I walked up to her and asked her if she was still with the other two women out in the van? She said yes. I asked her why they asked me for money for fuel, and after getting money AND MY fuel did she decide to spend it on Cigarrettes? I purposely said this loud enough so that all of the 8-10 in the store could here me. She got flustered and said the smokes were for somebody else. I was a little bit upset at this point, mostly at myself for letting myself get taken advantage of, and decided to just walk out and leave. The lady walked out behind me and got back in the van. She started talking to the other two but it did not look like they were planning on leaving. I just started my truck and left. I'm really glad they weren't there after I dropped off the tire. I don't mind helping people when they need it, just don't like being taken advantage of.

A lady came up to me outside of Houston. Said truck was on empty and was going to beaumont. Boyfriend beat her up. Had a busted nose and black eye. Filled her truck up and gave her cash.
I would rather get scammed out of a few bucks then turn down the one person who is in a bind. The ones who almost seem embarrassed asking are more times then not the ones who really need help.
