When I was taking my CHL class in Victoria the instructor picked up a gun that belonged to one of the students. He was trying to demonstrate the awkwardness of concealing a big weapon. Before the owner of the 45 cal. could tell him it was loaded, the gun discharged straight into ground right in front of us. There was 10 of us standing in a circle around this guy when it happened. It shook some people up so bad that they barely qualified. Glad you and your buddy were ok.

44 mag through the floor and into the basement. Just plain stupidity. Lucky it missed my foot.
      Permanent hearing damage since 1971.
      Repeat, stupidity.

We had a 30-30 bolt action that when you closed the action, the gun went off. Scared the mess out of me the first time it happened

first lesson I taught my son since the day he was around a fire arm

before you do anything check and re-check that the weapon is empty.

even if you see me empty it and check it . . . you check it again when I hand it to you . . . . don't trust anyone including me.

second lesson never handle a loaded weapon unless your shooting it or prepared to shoot it.

candidly my biggest fear about my chl its been strange carrying a loaded weapon around.

My buddy was showing me his new Rock River 1911 a couple of years ago. He unloaded it and handed it to me. After I looked at it he handed me the mag so I could reload it before putting it back in his dresser. As soon as I released the slide it chambered a round and immediately went off. My finger wasn't anywhere near the trigger. He now has a .45 cal hole in his mattress. I was really nervous around 1911s for a while after that.

i picked up my wifes "unloaded" glock 30 at the range. i accidentally put my finger on the trigger, and BANG! i shoot a hole through the table. i turned ghost white, and didn't even know what to say. i of course tried too blame the gun, but they don't just go off by themselves. we finished up and left. the funny thing is, nobody knew but my Wife and myself. and the range was full.

Went hunting with a 30-30 that I was unfamiliar with. I was alone and loading the rifle next to my jeep with the muzzle pointed into the cab. I loaded a round and went to put the hammer down, and the next thing I know, there is a hole in my plastic window on the passenger side. Made me sick to think what could have happened if I would have had a passenger. Hopefully I would have taken that into consideration and been loading the gun while pointed in another direction. I know the exact feeling in your gut that you are refering to.

tough deal...hate to hear someone living with the fear / stigma of a gun in this manner. OK, Some folks don't need to be handling side arms daily but fact is ad's are going to happen albeit rare. Those who experience it should make them safer.

Range work means all guns are cleared (visibly) ANYtime somebody goes down range. Sorry, but the line was hot & no movement to the target is acceptable until safe. (action open with mag removed, bolt out, cylinder open, etc)

You should talk to him about this...I would feel like the guilty party if I were in your shoes & tell them as such. Try to build something positive out of the situation.

At a shooting range on a ranch one time and some knucklehead let the hammer on a 30-30 slip from his thumb. It discharged into the ground. No one hurt but it really shook everyone up. The guide took it away from him and told him he would be using one of the guide's bolt action rifles. Scary stuff.

one time I was rifle hunting in a box blind while wearing a jacket with those elastic straps that you can tighten up when a doe walked out in front of me. Since it was in the rut, picked the gun up and put it on my lap. A few moments later a buck walked out. I slipped the gun off safety as I started to raise it up. I didn't realize that one of the straps and thing to hold it in place had slipped through the trigger. As I started to raise the rifle, BOOM. Scared the crap out of me and that box blind still has a hole in the side. Guess you could say me and the rifle had an accidental discharge from that one.

Had a friend discharge a 270 in between us in a deer blind, it so happened to be a Browning with a Boss and it blew my right ear drum out and his left. We both fell to the ground and each of us thought the other had had his head blowed off. Scared the crap out of both of us, I grabbed the gun, unloaded it and threw it out the window of the blind. I currently have 40% hearing loss in my right ear duw to this. We laughed about this yesterday but at the time I was MAD!!!! It was an accident but thats how people get killed,
