I messed my drawers this morning

Took a few guns to the range this morning to shoot. I was going to sale a friend an xd 9mm. He has never owned any type of firearm. I was going to show him how to operate it safely. We put a box through it and he shot it well. I brought a couple more pistols to let him shoot. I had them laying in the back seat of my truck with the back door open. Both pistols were loaded. I walk down to change targets and he hollars mind if I look at your kimber, said yea be careful its loaded. Im almost back to my truck and I hear "BOOM", I hit the ground. He is screaming my ears, im hollering you shot my truck. Once I gained my senses I went to inspect the damage. Went right through the carpet and floorboard. It nicked the emergency brake cable and left a 45 cal hole in my truck. He then ask if he can get his money back on xd, said he would never handle a gun again. I give him his money back. Im so thankful nobody was hurt. Ive been around guns all my life and this is my first expierence with an accidental discharge. Im still shook up from it, left a bad feeling in my gut I havent been able to kick. Have u ever been around a gun thas has been accidentaly discharged?

Scary! I have not had that happen or anything similar. At least he was pointing it down...I guess that is the good news. And probably good news he is not going to own a weapon.

I accidentally discharged my 10mm in my garage once. I swore I ejected the mag, cycled it, pointed down at the open door and pulled the trigger. BOOM! Scared the stuff out me. Turns out I actually loaded one and fired. I was shook up for a week thinking of different scenarios if it would have hit my kids, wife, dog, etc. I learned a very valuable lesson that day and I have a hole in the carpet as a constant reminder.

That's not the problem. The problem was he was handling a loaded firearm regardless of caliber. Personally, I don't think having a firearm loaded other than at the firing line is good practice. You can just never predict what might happen. Glad nobody was hurt.

An un-loaded firearm is just an expensive club...

Should have started with gun safety instead of shooting.

Nothing accidental about it. He pulled the trigger. The gun did what its supposed to have done.

Hmmm I think it would of been money back less the bullet hole.
And yes, I have been around that too many times I wish to count.

Little brother was playing "The rifleman" with a 30-30 and shot my bed out from under me. He took out the garbage for a year thereafter.

And for you to be teaching a new person about safety you should have made him unload it or done it yourself. Not many folks I trust to hand them a loaded gun and this is why. If your teaching safety then teach every aspect. They may think your dumb but it's better than dead. Safety comes first. Don't take for granted that he knows. SHOW him. Glad nobody was hurt.

A loaded firearm with an untrained individual is a quick way to get someone hurt or dead. I understand what you are saying, keep a gun on me most days. Mistakes can happen anywhere. This is why I get nervous going to gun ranges anymore. Just too many people that don't have a clue what they are doing. Makes everyone with a firearm look bad.

                              This....
Never had an accidental discharge before, but once upon a time I took my lovely wife to the gun store to find her a handgun for the house since I worked nights. We found her a Sig p238 with a laser... When she found that laser button, that was the first time I've ever had someone purposely muzzle me. Scary scary scary.. even though I knew, she knew, and the owner knew it was unloaded, it still freaked me out..
