They will numb the area, but, the pressure is a bit painful. It will be tender afterward. Nothing that a couple tylenol or a hydrocodone every 4-6 hours won't take care of.
Have not had one done myself, but we do them on animals periodically and they scream like crazy. Getting into the bone does not seem to hurt, but the pressure of them pulling the marrow out seems to be the really painfull part.
Like posted above they will numb the area but it doesn't help completely. As my mom used to describe it (she had 6 total) you feel a lot of pressure and the pressure/pain would get progressively worse.
She would be sore for a few days afterwards and have a difficult time sitting or laying on the side the biopsy was done on.
I just talked with them and they said as stated they will numb the tissue. But as you know, they cant numb the bone. She said the pain level varies alot. I have a very high pain threshold. But that needle in the bone part, seems well above it. I think im just overthinking it and freakin myself out more than anything.
Chongo that another concern. I dont wanna miss anymore work than the day of. Might he best to try and have it done on a Friday if they will.
You are over thinking it. The pressure is the worst of it. With a high pain tolerance that you say you have, you will do just fine and tylenol after for a day or 2 will do you well.
Bone marrow aspiration; have had it done every 3 months;procedure takes place at MD Anderson. Have had about 10 of them;lay on belly, they deadened the tissue at hip bone; takes about 15-20 minutes, they draw the bone marrow, put a heavy duty bandaid on it and I can not get it wet for 24 hours. I have it done and go back to work. It is not as bad as it sounds. I have one more to go in August and then it will be just blood tests very 6 months.
Dang bro, everything alright? Are you having this done in the Houston area? Let me know if you need anything......
In beaumont bro. It all stems from this hemachromatosis. Thet are doin a precautionary for leaukemia. Just to be on the safe side. I just got off the phone with an older fella that is a construction manager with us. He has the same thing i have. He said his hurt like hell. It appears it must be up to the doctors skills lol!!!
