    I got the answer back from the entomologist, here is a direct quote....

    "Hey Jim. That is the Central Texas leaf katydid. There is a pretty large outbreak of them around the San Antonio area right now. The worst recorded since 2001."

      Get them things the heck away from me!!! I can't stand those things! It looks like some kind of Katydid (they're all nasty)

            Never seen a katydid that color before, all the ones around here are a bright green.'

            But no doubt it is a katydid

            BTW they can BITE the you know what out of you, not the norm but they can if they want to

                Oh and it is a Nymph, so it still has some growing to do. Apparently, from what I read, they are common to having a localized population boom. That would explain it.
                your welcome. I heard about them on a garden show yesterday..one caller is actually selling them to some professor up north that grinds them up and eats them. He's getting .60 cents a piece.
