I got the answer back from the entomologist, here is a direct quote....

"Hey Jim. That is the Central Texas leaf katydid. There is a pretty large outbreak of them around the San Antonio area right now. The worst recorded since 2001."

Oh and it is a Nymph, so it still has some growing to do. Apparently, from what I read, they are common to having a localized population boom. That would explain it.

I'm telling you ...ive seen these guys before... they carry micro-neptunian plasma lasers, breath through their toes, and smoke camel un-filtereds....
