    Leupold or Zeiss?

I'm not a sniper. I just want a really good scope to start shooting fairly long range. Got a new Remington 700 30-06 with custom 2lb trigger, medium grade barrel, and floated barrel. Experienced shooter co-worker of mine says to go with a Leupold VXIII 4.5 x 14 x 40 with the CDS (custom dialing system). I know there several Zeiss guys on here.

Am I really going to see that much difference?

    Thanks!

Spend just a lil bit more and get a nightforce. Leupold and zeiss are both great though! Zeiss will get you a few more minutes out of a hunt!

optically, zeiss is better than leupold, hands down. Functionally, leupold products (MKIV) are better I think than the zeiss conquest line, but as far as clarity and "brightness" the zeiss is better.

comparing the vxiii to zeiss conquest, it's a no game. but the zeiss is going to cost you a little more.

I have both types but the Zeiss is on my hunting rifle for the extra light gathering

                  Zeiss. By a mile.

Leupold isn't even close. Zeiss is in a whole nother league.

Well it looks like Zeiss. Any other brands in the same Zeiss price range? This will be my first long range set up. Not wanting to spend S&B kind of prices.

My advice is to get exactly what you mentioned a leupold vx 3 4.5-14x in a CDS.
I have the same thing on my 700 .308 and is dead on. Its a great scope at an excellent price. GET ONE!!

Some of my family use Leica and they like them. My dad however swears by Zeiss and only Zeiss. I just got a Zeiss Conquest 6.5-20x50 to go on my new Rock River which is on the way.

Also I can comment on the difference between Leupold and Zeiss. We have a Leupold (not sure which) on our .338, and a Zeiss on our .30-378. I've shot both side by side and the Zeiss is noticeably brighter and clearer.
