I have heard of people getting a DWI having to pay a surcharge but I have never heard of this before. Kind of stumped me too. Sounds like a revenue rule.

No insurance conviction surcharge I believe is $400 and 1st DWI pretty sure is $1k, 2nd is $1500, plus the $1k you owe for the 1st.

More than likely, if they dropped the no DL, the court forgot to submit something or screwed up on their end. I would contact DPS and see what they say and then you may have to contact the court if it's in fact for the DL. The point system gives you 5 points for free and charges a flat $100 for point 6 and $25 each point after that.

The state instituted the surcharges back in '05 or '07, last time "they" were in a budget shortfall. Just another way to bilk more money from people. But, nailing it to the chronic speeders, no driving folks doesn't bother me at all.

Never heard of this so I looked it up. driving while license cancelled, suspended, or revoked, $250. a year. Driving and not having your license or expired license $100. Plus the collection vendor gets to charge 4% for handling it for the state so $104.

So you get fined on top of the fine that gets dismissed when you show you have a dl?
            Huh?

I have gotten 3 insurance tickets. All because I had an expired card and just never put the new one in the truck. 2 got dismissed, one of them I had to pay because I had 24 hr gap when I switched companies and just happened to get pulled over on that day. They called to verify and insurance said actually it was cancelled at midnight. They hit me with the points every time I got a ticket even though they were discharged. Ended up having to pay like 2400 over 3 years.

Bottom line is, if you get a ticket for anything and go to court and beat it, you are not leaving there without dropping some money.

Cost me 687 bucks and a weekend in the slammer.
Thank goodness it was before surcharges
Was it Williamson County? I know someone else who had the same thing happen. I don't think he had the fine you had though. His was just the weekend time off...

                        Our rights are vanishing

My fine is 104.00 per year which fits the having a valid license but did not have it on me fine. I proved i had the valid license but still pay a fine. This time next year i will be retired and living in the mountain country. If they want thier fine let them find me and then let them try to collect. Our world is changing fast and they wonder why people are stockpiling weapons and ammo.

Bottom line is that what DPS is doing is double jepordy.

They get some of the original fine and then send you a bill for another fine.

                                One more time

As i stated earlier this was a license issue not insurance. My main beef is fine if they want to play hard ball i will pay the fine but dont come out of the blue and say i owe another 312.00 over the next three years.
