I'm always saying that I hit the "Dad Lottery" when I was born. He has ALWAYS been there for me and given me sound advice. He was firm when he had to be, understanding through the rough times and lavish in praise all the time. If I can be half the dad to my son and daughter, I will have considered myself a successful dad. He is still with us (very fit for being 65) and I'm am fortunate to realize that every moment spent with him is a gift. I still call him to this day for advice. I will be devastated the day he passes.

I believe we should all live each day with the people we profess to love (wife, parents, brothers, sisters, friends, children) like it will be our last day with them, because you never know when it will be your last day with them or them with you. Easy to preach it, but sometimes hard to do it, easy to say it and sometimes I catch myself not doing it.

i talk to my dad several times a week, for hours at a time about what seems like nothing, but wouldnt change it. he has taught me how to be a Man, father and outdoormans all at teh same time. he is going to be 59 this year and i know he wont be around forever so i cherish every minute we get o spend together. i am fortunate to have had a godly man as an example in my life, i know i wouldnt be 1/2 the man i am today if i didnt have a example like him.

I hear you. I fish with him and even drag him out in the marsh duck hunting with me. He was a little rusty at first with a shotgun but caught back on pretty quick. He just retired so hopefully we have many more years of hunting and fishing together. He taught us how to fish and hunt always took us camping as kids and loves bass fishing. Bass fishing is definitely his favorite and is what he is more geared up for. But I get him out saltwater fishing too and he enjoys it.. When the cold fronts start pushing birds down in November he is always the first call. Me and him absolutely hammered the ducks on every hunt we went on this year except for one mediocre day. He definitely had a good time. I always enjoy spending time with him and returning the favor for all those trips he took me on. Hopefully we we have just as many ahead of us. Who knows I may get him deer hunting before its over.Last edited by Lungbustr; 04-21-2012, 11:58 AM.

I lost my real Dad to leukemia when I was 9 and he was 32. My Mom remarried to a man who would take his place just fine. He got me into hunting and fishing and we became very close as his own two boys didn't like to hunt or fish. I was small for my age all the way through school and he taught me how to fight. I got kicked out of school 17 times for fighting and he got me back in every time. He would say "You don't have to be the biggest, strongest or the smartest, you just have to be the toughest."
He dies in 05 just a couple months after my Mom Passed. I think it was a broken heart that killed him.

My dad dad is 51 we are as close as we could be for living 4 hours apart he and his dad taught me everything I know from chasing girls to cleaning fish. Funny thing while I was reading all the post and thinking of my dad he sent me an instant message to me at work (we work for the same company) asking how the family was and when can we meet up for some golf.

I don't even want to think about how it will affect me when I no longer have my Daddy. He was my world growing up and still is! He is happy for me and proud of all that I have accomplished in my life and he isn't afraid to tell me or show me! I wish we lived closer but not a day goes by that I don't talk or text him! Don't know what I would do without him!!!

Lost my Dad on 12/23/2010. Sad day for the family. He taught me and my two brothers how to crappie, catfish, run nets, squirrel, and deer hunt. He taught us the outdoors, and all aspects about it. He taught us how to be respondsable, and how to respect the outdoors and also our fellow man. He carried many of our friends and cousins with us and taught them the same. He was a Christian and taught us to Love the Lord!! I miss him on every hunt and am aways thinking of him. Love you "POP. Thanks for teaching me "Your Way". Then after losing him, we lost our Mother 8 months later.....
