Last time we went we stayed at these cabins in Island Park, Idaho about 30 min form west yellowstone entrance. http://cabinsinislandpark.com/
Also the best western in Jackson is very nice and not a bad place to stay when in Jackson. There are some cabins at the south entrance of yellowstone at the Flagg ranch. Nothing fancy at all. If you get a chance go to Cody Wy, spend the day there see the Fire Arms museum.

We have stayed here the last 2 times, it's in Island park, but it's beautiful out there, family owned and run. Hot tubs, TV's good beds, and secluded, about 30 minutes from the west entrance (which to me is better than the south entrance)

i would suggest the buffalo bill cabin and museum to stay out right outside the east entrance to the park which is close to cody wyoming. place is fairly nice but gives you a rustic cabin feel. i would also suggest this dude ranch right down the road from buffalo bills but i cant remember the name of it for the life of me, but i remember the owners name was Seven. Both places are just minutes from the gates so its not far at all. I would also like to warn you and give you a heads up on all the buffalo and all the traffic they cause haha they are kind of annoying after the first few times you see them.

Reading back over my old posts.
In case anyone is interested, on the trip we stayed at:
Fawn Valley Inn in Estes Park.
It is right at the entrance to the Rocky Mountain Natnl Park. It also has a pool. I wanted to ease the kids into this woodsy vacation, but we ended up not even getting into the pool.
The cabins at Colter Bay Village in Grand Teton NP.
Very woodsy feel inside, but they are stacked in together pretty close. Everyone kept noise to a minimum, however, and we even had 2 mule deer bucks walk through the compound. I really like the inside of our cabin.
The Brook Trout Inn in West Yellowstone, MT, just outside Yellowstone NP.
This was a cabin (a small rustic, newly built house actually) on a guy's property. It was close to the road and had little woodsy feeling to it, but was GREAT to relax in after the long driving and looking and walking that we had been doing.Click here for site, pics.
On the way home we stayed a night in Casper, WY at the C’mon Inn.
The name sounds pretty hokey, but it was a cool hotel. Also cheaper than any of the others in town but really nice rooms.

my wife and i went the first week of June and stayed in the park, sometime in cabins which were nice, stayed in Mammoth park, one night outside the park i think was West Yellowstone. We spent one night in Cody Wy, went to the Erma that was built by Cody and you have got to visit the Cody museum!
