    The Yellarstone

Planning a trip to Yellostone NP this summer.
Those who have been recently, what lodging do you recommend for something that is not akin to a trapper's shack (old, run-down, primitive) or something that you could wake up in and think you are in a Holliday Inn in Dallas (too modern).

I have been reading some of the reviews and some of the old cabins sound pretty ratty. It doesn't bother me, but my wife WILL NOT sleep in something like that.

I want something that feels "lodge-y", if you follow, but not too old & run down or too modern.

I highly reccomend staying outside the NE entrance Cooke City area. The Lamar Valley is right there and the Beartooth mountains are awesome. Once you get outside the park the crowds dissapear. The Beartooth highway drive is just as scenic as anything I saw in Yellowstone.

      we stayed at http://www.nationalparkreservations....FcZdTAodWBm6Cg

it is about half way between Jackson Hole and Yellowstone. Easy drive to head either direction and the best part was the view. We stayed in the cabins next to the lodge. The are clean simple one bedroom and an easy walk to the lodge for food or drink. No TV and no AC in the cabins. PM if you have any question.

I would recommend the first night in Jackson Hole. Lot of stuff to do in and around town and I know your wife will like all the shops. Most fun I ever had shopping......

If you have little ones this was a blast. My daughter hid in the floorboard of the wagon when the Indians attacked. One of my fondest memories the whole trip. The food was not very good.

I grew up about 2 hrs from yellowstone and I agree with this completely. Also their is a place called the grizzly and wolf discovery center that I highly recommend.

I will be just outside the park at Henry's Lake, ID the first week of July. We plan to fish the Yellowstone River, Snake, Henry's Fork, Madison, Gallatin and whatever else the wives give us time to fish.

If you decide you are interested in staying in West Yellowstone, let me know. I can mail you a tourist guide/booklet from there with lots of info. Heck give me your address, and I will mail it to you anyway.

if you stay in the park check out the cabins at yellowstone lake. not the hotel but the individual cabins. i worked in the park for 6 summers guiding on the lake out of Bridge Bay marina. back then the cabins were pretty nice and have everything you need. also, the lodge at old faithful is nice.
