Yep, USAA, bout 9.00 a month. It's worth it.

Only the contents are covered under homeowners, not the trailer itself.

I have a trailer I paid $5,000 for in 1995. I've never had it insured. If you add up the money I've saved in premiums over the last 17 years, I could pay for the current value of the trailer a couple times over. (Keep in mind they only pay you what it was worth at the time of the loss.)

Meanwhile, I purchased a trailer in 2010 for $8,000. The very next year, I lost it to fire. It wasn't insured either. Ouch!

The point being it's a calculated risk. If you don't buy insurance, basically you're putting yourself in the position of the insurance company. Obviously, insurance companies are in business to make money. So if you have the funds in place to replace the trailer in the event of a loss, the statistics are in your favor that you will come out better by "self insuring." (If that were not true, insurance companies couldn't stay in business.) Of course, anything could happen. But it's sort of like being the dealer in Vegas instead of the player. The odds are in your favor.

By the way, I replaced the burned up trailer last year with a $5,000 trailer. And I don't have it insured either.
