west texas/southern plains - any thing up on the caprock from Lubbock south to Big Spring.

Real west Texas - from Big Spring you could draw a straight line southwest to Iraan, Sanderson, etc. Anything west of that line is west Texas.

      my 2 cents...
      Yes!! Amen!!

Junction?! Give me a break. Abilene I consider central. San Angelo is not west Texas. North of Lubbock I'd say is panhandle/north Texas.
Just because it's west of you doesn't make it west Texas.... Check the map....

Anything West of 83 and South of 380 is West Texas to me.

West of 83 and North of 380 is the Panhandle

Anything East of Tyler is East Texas

This is what I have always thought. I used to make my college buddies from Odessa mad when I told them everything West of I35 was West Texas. That got a little defensive.

Lol. I will have to respectfully disagree. Brownwood is cutting it close, but Abilene is West Texas.

I believe someone once defined it as the area West of the Brazos.

I have always thought of San Angelo/Sonora/ Ozona as the far southeast corner, draw a line straight up to I 20 and move westward. If it irks somebody then so be it...
