Sorry to hear, but you not only did the right thing, you did the responsible thing. I know first hand how bad it sux, we had to go through the same thing a couple years ago with an awesome looking black lab. He was not agresive towards us, but towards others, kids included. He weighed 109 lbs and was capable of doing some serious damage. Re-homing him was out of the question, and keeping him isolated all the time would have probably made him more crazy. He was my wifes dog, and he came from craigslist, no papers. I think he was genitically agressive and a product of backyard breeding.
