Hit it with some Naval Jelly and let it set for 10 min...bubbled a little, washed it off real good, and cleaned it with soap, water and a good brush.

Turned on the burner to dry it off and dropped in a pound package of lard, and brought it up to 350-375. Just gonna let it sit and soak for a few hours.

    Finished bottom:

    Grinding on the inside...done.

    In goes the lard...

Up to temp. Been taking a brush and getting the fat up the sides and coating them real well.

    Is this one mine????

Very nice job!!!! I like the handles.

I tried to make one one time using a John Deere disk and I could never get it to stop cracking after welding in the hole. I was using a MIG welder and after grinding it smooth there were cracks. I tried bringing the whole disk up to a high and even temp and then welding it and the cracks still appeared. I guess JD makes their disks out of a different type of metal.????

                This was an uncut disc.
The guy I bought it from had put the handles on and I did the rest.

No Jeff...this one is NOT yours.
But I can build u one just like it.

fired it up last night and did some pork and chicken fajitas.

                    cooks like a CHAMP!!

Easy to clean too...take everything off, let it get hot and toss some water on it. it de-glazes itself and I used a plastic bristle brush to get anything else off. Wipe with a paper towel, throw in some oil, rub it in, turn off heat...DONE!

My wife made a nice cover for it out of black denim.

                      ok...I just hafta reiterate...

these things ROCK for cookin fajitas and veggies!!

We did another batch of chicken and beef tonight. Need to get a higher output burner assembly (or a new one) and modify my ring a little to get the disc a little closer so I get a bigger sweet spot. but that's minor...

the 2 batches of fajitas I've cooked on this thing have been some of the best i've tasted in a long time. And TENDER! WOW!!

I may need to enlist my neighbor and his welder and make a run up to Austin to buy some plain discs and make a few more of these...I know ONE GUY who I need to make one for Heck...for big batches of fajitas...it might be nice to have 2 or 3 going

                        Looking good.

I'll be at TX State on Wednesday. Can you have another built by then?

Or need me to pick anything up in Austin for you? I'll trade you the TBH Express to San Marcos... I'll be going to SA around April 6th and could pick up then if needed.

hmm...well...if you're in Austin, just pick one up a finished one at Lanford Equipment.

they sell finished ones for $55. Cheaper than what I got my unfinished one for.

you can get the unfinished discs for about $36, but with parts and all the dang grinding I'd have to do, it would be a bit more than $55 if I built one from scratch

Was my first call this morning!!!!

I hauled mine to the deer lease this weekend thinking my Missouri buddies would get a kick out of it. Next thing I know it is loaded in the back of their truck and I am waving bye to hit. They thought the tears in my eyes was cuz I didnt want to see THEM leave but really it was the cooker!!!! They are good guys and I know they will get a kick out of showing it off. Just have to find me a new one now.
