found a guy in New Braunfels that had the discs.
A couple of em had handles on em already, so I opted for the spring steel...same price as horseshoes and no worries of branding yourself
They were raw discs and he'd bought em back in 2010 (talked to the guys at Lanford Equipment that sold em to him...they gave me his contact info). They'd been sitting out in his shop (aka outside) and needed some work...lots of work.
Pretty dang rusty and LOTS of paint. Tried the wire disc brush on the drill and that didn't cut it, so I called my neighbor and asked to borrow his grinder. He happened to have a couple metal sanding discs. One new, one almost at the end of the line. They're both wasted, and I've only got a little more on the inside left to do and it'll be shiny and smooth.
Got some goo that you brush on that will take care of any rust that's burrowed down in deep...has phosphoric acid in it.
Bottom is finished. Hit it with some BBQ paint (when the disc was hot), let it dry and then fired up the burner again for about 30 min. Sprayed some pam on it and let it set overnight. YES...the center of it is going to burn off in time...I just want it looking brand new when I start.
Here's some before pics...it was dark when I stopped this evening and I couldn't get any "after" pics.
Have a big block of lard ready to go to season the inside once it's clean.
