I had a little digger of dog once. I buried chicken wire at the base of the fence and covered with dirt or you can plant grass over it. After almost yanking a nail out of his paw he stopped.

Goat panel or chicken wire on the ground along the fence. The grass will eventually grow up through it and hide it.

        FHBH,

Take 2 ft. pieces of rebar and drive them in the ground right next to the fence where they are trying to dig out, and leave about 6 in. sticking out of the ground . That will stop them.☺

Life is better with elcetricity. No more wasted energy beating a dog. By the way If you can not train a dog by any other means then beating it get a cat. Hey Just my opionon. I am sure some on here think different and thats ok.

Thanks for all the advice. I have tried beating. Didn't do anything but hurt my hand..lol. I have put bricks and rocks in the hole and recovered it, they just dig it back out. I think I am going to try the fence. Give me a project for this weekend.

Was not concerned about the cosmetics, the grass will eventually grow back over it. Real cheap, buy, mix and pour your own.

When you do the poop scooping put the waste in the holes where they dig and cover it up. Dogs will not dig up their own stuff.

Go to a feed store and look for the Fido-Shock kit. It contains a fence charger, 10 plastic stakes just like was described above with the hole in them, a ground rod and 100 ft of 17-gauge aluminum wire.

You'll need more wire to go around your whole yard and additional pvc poles are easy and cheap to make.

The Fido-Shock kit should retail for about $50 wo with additional stuff, you'll have $75 max in it and it'll do you a great job.

It has been a long time since i have messed with electric fence, how do you tie it off on the end opposite the charger?

Just make the last post and insulator the tie-off point.

                        Quick. Simple. Easy. EFFECTIVE.

TIP: If you "Figure 8" wrap your wire on EVERY THIRD INSULATOR (with the wire good and taught... WITHOUT pulling the last figure-8 wrapped post over too much) you will have a nice, tight fence.

TIP2: Any slack that may be in any stretch of the fence (it happens) can then easily be taken up by taking another wrap or two around one of the other insulators in between the figure-8 wraps.

Hot wire is the only thing that work to my Labs to keep them from digging under the fence or getting under the mobile home skirting...
Especially the one in the picture to the left...

Hot wire is the way to go. Cayenne pepper will work sometimes. I was also told you could bury a balloon and when they dig into it, it will pop in their face and scare them enough to stop digging???
