    Dogs digging under fence

I am trying to get my dogs to stop digging under my fence. I was told to put an electric fence about 8" from the ground and attach it to my wood fence in the back yard. Anyone got any other ideas?

You can cut hogwire or horse fence about 18-24" wide and bury it on the inside bottom of the fence. Hotwire is the easy way.

Put their noise in the hole and a belt to their butt.

When I first got my dogs(both strays) they would dig and run off a lot. I would have just let them go if it were not for my wife. I ended up beating the heck out of them for a couple months. Now, 8 years later I can leave the gates open all night and they wont exit until I say it is ok. And when I say back yard they head through that gate.

Tried that, no bueno. The little $#%**^% just dug a new hole and escaped again. Finally put 2x4's down flat at the bottom of the fence. That seems to be working. So far.

My lab chewed my water hose into pieces, so I used the piece to spank him with and he hadn't touched it since.

The hotwire system you were told about is the cheapest and best.

Cheapest - 20.00 for low-amp 'pet' fencer unit (constant ON... no danger)
                Wire... 4-10.00
                Posts and insulators... 30-40.00
Time to install... 20 minutes, tops.

Time saved, no longer having to get up... run after the young, dumb, hard-headed beasts... cussing... being free entertainment for the neighbors...

                PRICELESS.

Been there. Done that. No thanks.

Having the electric right on the fence usually doesnt work. Buy some sticks of 3/4" pvc and cut all to about 15 inches long and drill a hole about an inch from the one end of each piece and hammer other end in to ground a few inches. Place your pvc sticks out from the fence about 8-10 inches and they will not be able to get to the bottom of the fence. Run your wire through your holes and plug in. I would try and find a continuous charge instead of pulsating charger. hope this helps

I had the same problem with my dog digging out and used the hot wire. I went to lowes bought the box, wire, insulators and some extensions that are about 10in long. The sold it all I'm the garden part by fence materials. It took her 2 times of being shocked to learn to stay away and now we don't even have it on. It's been about two years now.

...yep. Same experience with every pup (currently have 10 that were 'schooled' the same quick way).

My two labs use to dig under the fence bad. I put up an electric fence for about two months. It shocked them like no other. I have since taken down the electric fence and they will not go near the fence. I tried the cayenne pepper and beating them with a stick and it never worked. I would say use the electric fence, it doesn't cost that much. They sell the yellow wire extensions to attach to the fence. I put a double strand of wire, bottom wire about 8" off the ground and the 2nd wire about 18" to 20" off the ground.
