was wondering did you bounce or just make a sudden stop! seriously though glad you are okay, I am always thinkin of the family as I am latching my safety harness on. Merry CHRISTmas.
Guys, that's why you should always stay attached to a safety rope while climbing. It pays to be safe. If not for us then for our families...
Exactly! And why not to set-up a ladder stand by yourself. I might hunt out of one again BUT I'll have help setting it up and will leave a fallguy restraint hooked up. Thats the bad thing about public land hunting, pack in & pack out. It's my climber and pop-up now. And I stay hooked to the tree from the time I step on it.
Glad you are OK. I have fallen a long way out of a tree but I was 5 and several branches broke my fall on the way down. I think it was the "ugly tree"!
[QUOTE=hachiebowhunter;429143]Sunday morning was shaping up to be a great morning.
After a quick damage assessment and realizing that the good lord saved me from being severely injured, I piled my stuff on the ground next to a tree and got ready to hunt. I mean hell, why ruin a good cold morning hunt.
All I could think of then and now is my lil girl, who just had her 2nd birthday on Saturday. I know for a fact the good Lord was there with me cuz had I landed six inches to the right I would of landed on the broken section of the ladder that was in the ground.
I'm amazed that I'm alright after falling from that height.
Merry Christmas to all my fellow TBH'rs and be please be safe. God Bless Ya'll![/QUOTE
Im not wanting to be the TBH preacher here. But you should have left right then and found you a church to go and visit. I was hunting about 4 weeks ago on Sunday morning and shot and lost the biggest buck of my life. I hunt close to the house and most Sunday morning I will sit till 9:00 and then fly home and jump in the shower and then fly to church. Well, this Sunday morning was a perfect morning, it had flooded all night, the rain quit at daylight and was just misting. I told myself that all the deer probably laid up thru the night and would move great so I decided I would skip church and just hunt till about mid day. At 9:15 my buck stepped out perfect, I thought I made a perfect shot. After 4 guys and a dog looking for the deer it never was found. I can't help but think the Good Lord was telling me I should have been in church. I'll never miss church again for a mornings hunt. By the way Im glad your not hurt. I have little girls myself, I know what was going thru your mind.
Those things scare me, if God had meant this boy to climb trees as a child he'd have given me money hands and feet. If I had to hunt out of one, I'd take up stamp collecting. I brought a borrowed tree stand elk hunting, it was a climber. I tried it on a pine tree in camp, got about 5 feet in the air and told the guys in elk camp to watch out, I'm coming down and getting off it as fast as I could, and put it away.
You have TWO things to celebrate this Christmas: Our Lord's birth and your good luck. Merry Christmas!
i know exactly what your talkin about,i was 24 feet(i measured later) in a oak tree sittin on a 5 gallon bucket on a small platform and i was leanin back on the edge of the bucket and boom there went the bucket and down i went with bow in lap tring to grap anything in site but didnt work hit the ground on a above ground root with my hip. had a bruse from my shouder blade to my calve took over an hour to get to the trk about 1/2 mile away (i was in realllly baadd pain, worst ever) then i had to drive a standerd f-150 back to camp about 7 miles. that wasnt the best day ive had in the woods. i was laided up for about a month no broken bones but alot of blood shot meat and the old bones were acin.i now were a harns when i climb.
