Yes, I eat bass and I think it tastes good. I usually eat every legal fish I catch, sometimes the 10 in crappie will live another day. If you eat bass, at what size do you let them go? I don't catch big bass very often, so I normally don't worry about it. Today I caught 2 bass that I was really close to letting go because of their size. So, what's the magic number?

I grew up eating a lot of largemouth.
nowadays, Fishing at our public lakes or in the rivers, no ditch pickles are kept by me…Fun to catch and what not, but I’ll save my filleting for crappie and sandies.
Our our Personal pond/tank, any bass caught we try to clean and eat for the health of the ponds other fish (crappie and assortment of big sunfish)
the smaller 10” fish seem to eat better. With the bigger fish, like over a pound and a half, I’ve found that filleting them then cutting the filet into thinner strips then frying seems to work better for me. Crisps them up…
I’ve had one or two largemouth filets that were cooked through but still soft or soggy in the middle due to the thickness of the meat. Yuck.

I used to eat bass growing up but now the only fish I fillet out are catfish and white bass. If I were to keep largemouth I’d probably only keep them under 2 pounds.Last edited by TXcazador91; Yesterday, 06:33 PM.
