I turn mine off because it has a locking gas cap that uses the ignition key

    And habit

When I was running a diesel I rarely turned it off when refueling

I turn mine off cause after fueling I’m gonna leave my vehicle parked at the pump while I shop in the store for an hour or so. So no need to leave it running while fueling.

Actually I don’t do this but see plenty of people who do.

I get gas 3 times a week. At one point, once a day in a car that had been running a solid 8 hours. Never turned them off.

                My diesel......on

I try and stay very aware of my surroundings when I do.

I turn it off if its Gas or if I'm going inside.

I would think, (given this thread appears to be about 50/50) I'd see a lot more people leaving their cars running than I do.

I had a toyota sequoia. I never turned it off to fuel it. After a year or so it threw a check engine light code. It was saying the fans that pulls the fumes into the canister was bad. This was a very expensive fix. Took it to a local guy and he told me that when a car is running the vacuum is pulling the fumes. That extra air will cause the system to say it is not reading correctly. That I need to turn off the vehicle and lube up the gasket around the gas cap to make sure it seals correctly.

Now. Do I turn my truck off now. My diesel. Never. Gas... sometimes. depends on if I remember or not. It is not a worry.

i see guys all the time sit at the pump eating their lunch in the truck so they can be in the shade, some not even putting the pump handle in the tank... i worked for at&t for a year and would take lunch at a gas station parking lot frequently, would see trucks sitting there the entire time i was there, just eating and napping.

Gas vehicles get turned off while diesel is left running.

I quit turning off engines to get fuel about 20 years ago.

I travel with dogs and a woman, both of which have noticed that the air thing stops blowing when the engine stops.

                              BS flag had been thrown!

Tell him that most new vehicles don’t even have a gas cap lol

I have never left it on or even thought about leaving it on. I guess I was always told for safety but now I just don't see the point in wasting gas. I compare it to drinking a beer while you are actually peeing, it is a losing battle....lol.
