    Build or Buy a 10/22?

I've got a Ruger 10/22 Stainless All-Weather model that the kids absolutely love shooting. It is cheap practice at the lease. I've had a plan for a while to install a threaded target barrel and suppress it, replace the stock, and maybe a drop in the Ruger BX Trigger. All in all about $500 not including the suppressor.

This isn't a competition target rifle, we plan to use this for target practice and varmints, we have lots of coons to thin out. It's a lot of money to spend on a rifle, but it is the one we use the most and have fun with.

Should i just buy a new .22 and add the suppressor? Problem is, i love shooting suppressed now and i'm worried i will still modify this rifle down the road. What are some accurate off the shelf .22's that are threaded?

If yall shoot it as much as you say, might as well make the favorite, even more of a favorite. it will be worth the added cost. Getrdone

I went through a similar scenario a few weeks ago. I had a sparrow suppressor about to get outa jail and I was planning to take a donor 10-22 and put a threaded barrel, new stock, etc. Turns out the shop that had the sparrow also had in stock a 10-22 with the heavy threaded barrel, upgraded ruger trigger, & hogue stock for $430. Already had a 6 power scope to put on top of it. Really happy I went that route. Good luck

If you decide to buy one, I have one for sale. Just sits in the safe. Has probably been shot 25 times. Let me know.

I ended up closer to a grand in mine before I was done. I could have bought a Clark custom for couple hundred more. Depends on if you really enjoy the process of the build or just want a custom nail driver.

If anything I'd just get a threaded barrel for it or shoot it as is. A .22 rifle ain't loud enough to matter. It's plenty good enough to shoot raccoons and targets as it sits.

Same. The only thing left in mine that is factory is the receiver. It is fun to shoot though.

Sounds like you need a 2nd...get a Tacsol or the like.

At TacSol, we meticulously craft our rimfire rifles to guarantee precision and accuracy, ensuring that each shot hits its mark.

I would cut the current bbl to 16 & thread myself regardless.

I've been looking at a few on Bud's guns that are already built out similar to what i want for under $600. Seems like a wash money wise except i end up with 2 guns instead of 1. That always leaves the option to build out the first rifle down the road.

I've got other gun upgrades in the pipeline, so trying to keep this one sub $600.

You can definitely pickup a 10/22 and customize it well within your 600$ range. I'd find a used one, rebarrel with new stock, depending on what year model replace trigger and mag release and you have a sub 1/2" gun at 50 yards all day.

-For affordable quality barrels I'd look at Green Mountain Barrels, they have a lot more options than what most companies offer

Over time and for the kids I would 100% get suppressed. Protect the kids hearing at all cost.

I had the same dilemma with the same 10/22. I ended up selling and purchasing a Bergara BXR.
