    The "WHAT IS IT?" thread

I've had this tool just collecting dust in my shop and am not 100% sure what it's for. This tool belonged to a dear friend who passed away back in 1995 and he gave it to me, but never told me what it's for. My first guess back then was for something to do with v-belts, but that guess has changed.

I'll withhold my guess until you guys/gals have a go at it.

And, No, I don't think it's for using against nagging wives. Just kidding.

Of course, it's possible that my guess is wrong, but it looks similar to another tool I own that is not nearly as old.

One part is hinged on the other that appears to be the handle. When you squeeze or move the lever part (that's what I'll term it) the pulley-like part rides upward on the handle part.

Yep. Depending on the size of the die, maybe a small conduit Bender or brake line forming tool.

Don't think it's a tubing bender... not with that FLAT base panel.

I was gonna guess ratchet strap but tubing bender makes more sense

I ran MIDAS muffler shops as a young'n. Bent a good amount of 1.5 - 2.5" tubing for over-axles, etc. Have also done all the rudimentary plumbing fixes on this old place (including a good bit of tube bending for both water and propane...

...never seen a tubing bender with a flat arc (where the bend takes place) surface.

                    Never.
