If you can't get power they will use natural gas motors. We had some with the zz 502 big block Chevy motors that were set up for natural gas. They sounded bad azz when you loaded them up. 😄 A lot of the areas, especially in wtx, and these deeper resource plays have dirty gas that is very expensive to clean up and run through a motor.
You will some times see big diesel generators powering an electric motor until you can get power ran to your unit. It's very expensive. At $20-30k in diesel per month, it's not hard to justify the cost to run a line.
If you go out to wtx you will see thousands of miles of power lines running to all those little units.
