An accent is nothing more than placing emphasis on different parts of words. Singing is basically an accent unto itself because the inflection of the notes dictates the emphasis that is placed on the words.
In other words, by carrying a tune you are forced to mold to the music. Rapping and Jamaican music are spoken more than sang. Some other types of music are the same, such as some country music and some bluegrass.
People who sing are basically conforming to the "accent" of the music.

Paul didn't have an accent either, nor John... It is kinda strange that we have a difficulty understanding their English, but the songs are clearly without accent. Maybe it's the timing and cadences of the songs that help us understand what they are saying and we perceive it as "no accent"..
