Tough call. He could bounce back.

Correct. I'm willing to bet he ain't got much of a dental plan living out west and what he's got won't get any better

At my place he would get shot. You may have better deer overall than me, so I can’t tell you what to do.

Good luck in whatever you decide.

We have a very similar situation on our lease in Mexico. A buck was wounded last year and survived. He looks really healthy this year, but his horns went down a bit. This is the third year he has been a target so we decided to keep him on the hit list. If we’re given the chance to kill him, we will. He has always been very elusive and doesn’t show up much during hunting season, so that also plays into our decision. If he was a regular, we would likely let him roll

he has lived a whole year and you witnessed him chasing pretty ladies. If that isn't living good what is?

on a side note ( and as I type this I realize it be mostly irrelevant ) I killed a nice bull elk one year, and upon skinning and quartering, I found a broad head in the left ham. It was all grizzled up in scar tissue. He was as healthy as they come and he had 16 cows in his harem on his last day. so your mileage could vary

That'd be a hard call for me too, Justin. If you do wait till next season, up or down, at least you will have the honor to watch him one more year.

I think you should just let Erin shoot him. You had your chance.

That buck should get a lifetime pass out of respect. He done beat you at your game. Eat the L and move on.

Are we still talking about the buck? Or college football?

As long as he is healthy, I personally wouldn’t feel any obligation to take him this year, especially if he’s down from last year. I think the story is just as cool if you let him walk, then hunt him again next year.

The irony here is I wasn't on the top of my game that evening, much like well you know. I think we both will get another crack at it.

If you kill that deer, all the other deer will throw water bottles inside your feeder pen.

Only if they know it was the wrong call.
