"How did I screw this up?" IMO that's why I never shoot past 20 yards. I bet if you had a higher frame video it would be clear how much she ducks.
This. 20 is my max because of this right here.

Sorry guys, was a bit busy handling some business. The arrow had bright red blood with a few bubbles - but I attributed that to the flopping. I have watched the raw footage....a bit better quality that what is posted and it seemed like she definitely ducked and rolled. I hope you guys are right and she makes it. Been a lot going on and I am getting much less time to hunt then I hoped. I did my best to search the area pretty good. Not even a drop of blood. The way the wind looks.... Iay just there again in the morning but I don't have high hopes with the amount of scent I laid down looking for her.

Most of my stands are set up for 20-25 yards. In this case, I think I should have shot 6" lower. The sad thing is if I hadn't had the camera playing I probably would have come to this conclusion that I would not recover her much earlier. Gents, I appreciate the feedback. I have been doing this for long enough to know that 9/10 times I am my own worst enemy. My goal is to learn from every one of these situations. Just sucks!

Jon, don't beat yourself up over it. It happens to all of us sooner or later... and just like you suggested, use it as a learning experience and take steps to improve the situation the next time there is a similar opportunity! Main thing is get out there and give it another whirl!
          Good luck!

It would take handcuffs to keep me out the bow stand this year. I missed a lot of deer season last year due to the split and quite a bit early this season due to dads health and death. Finally starting to feel like me again and I fluff a shot....smh.

The woods is soothing. That’s where we temporarily clear our heads and escape the world and what it brings at times. Sometimes the hunt don’t go as planned ( please don’t ask how I know ) but we have to consider ourselves as blessed given the opportunity to spend one more day in the field. So many aren’t that fortunate. As long as the good outweighs the bad it’s all great therapy.

At least you didn't miss a 5x5 bull elk standing broadside at 7 yards like someone did

It was in my elk hunt thread. Simply put when I spun around there was a pine branch 1-2" in front of my broadhead I didn't see. Arrow was in top of back (maybe even above backstrap). I saw it as he ran away. So I guess I didn't completely miss.

Exactly what I was going to post. You screwed it up by shooting at a deer at 29 yards. She moved. A lot. Shooting at targets gives people too much false confidence.

Jumping the string isn't just a vertical concern. It can cause a broadside to turn into a quartering. A lung to turn into a stomach or shoulder. If they're far enough to need to aim low, don't be surprised when this happens.
