    Watch Questions

I wear an Apple Watch daily, but would like a nicer watch for some occasions. Looking at a Tudor Black Bay or an Omega Aquaterra as front runners. Any others I should consider? What are some reputable online shops for used watches? Anyone own an orient watch- seems a lot of looks and quality for sub $500. Thanks all.

I love watches and want a Rolex so bad, BUT I am a teacher soooo LOL. However I wear a Seiko every day that I bought in 2007. They make lots of watches and many are very classy. I highly recommend Seiko for a quality but not expensive watch.

I have a Tag Calibre 5 and an Omega Speedmaster…both are excellent and subtly elegant watches. While the Tag is a nice watch, the quality of the Omega is undeniable. Of the two you mentioned, I wouldn’t hesitate to buy an Omega.

OK so I am currently on this rabbit hole as I used to wear a vintage rolex from my father but stopped because I do not want anything to happen to it.

I can't speak to the $500 or $1,000 plus market, I don't think I would be in that market even if I had Trump's money. But regarding the sub-$500 you ask about, Orient and Seiko (which are often compared to each other as they are both Japanese) are both nice. I recently purchased a Citizen (Brycen model) that caught my eye for way less than $500. You can find them and other nice offerings for very reasonable prices online. https://www.citizenwatch.com/us/en/p...A0649-14E.html

Had a Rolex, got rid of it and I'll never buy another expensive watch again. A part came loose inside and I was having to wind it frequently. So while we were in Charleston I went by their Rolex store to ask questions. They told me I'd need to have a dealer send it in to be repaired and at a minimum anything sent in is $1000. They also recommend to send them in every 3-5 years to be refreshed (lack of the proper term), for a minimum $1000. That's dumb.

I own Rolex and Omega. Honestly, I love them both for different reasons, but of the two you mentioned, Omega is the way I'd go (even though Tudor is made by Rolex).
Rolex will retain its value better than Omega, but that's not the case for Tudor- I noticed on auction sites that my Omega could resale for about 60% of it's new purchase value and Rolex was closer to 90+% depending on how desperate the seller is. Not that you would sell it, but to me, that information matters.

Oh man those jack Mason watches are nice. I like to ask folks about their watch so that would make a great conversation piece also.

Before we had cell phones, I wore one of these every day. Great for hunting, fishing, working, running, etc. they last forever.
Never wore bling to impress anyone.

I have a Tag Heuer and haven't worn it in years. Ya'll are correct about the maintenance cost, mine was about $500 every 3-4 years it seemed. I think I am going to give it to my son and let him keep up with it.

I'm not surprised that this is the information they gave you. However, for those of you who own high-end watches, I would never "send" it anywhere...especially if it's a legacy watch. Find a jeweler who is a certified dealer/repair person for your watch brand. Someone who will repair (or "refresh") it on premises only.

I love watches - especially vintage or vintage looking. I have one vintage rolex datejust from 1987 that I wear almost daily and finally was able to order my 2nd rolex, the new GMT Master ii with black/gray dial. I also have had really good luck with timex in the past and have one of their self wind Marlin's they brought back a few years ago based on 1960s model.

                          Timex Marlin - ~$200

After I got my rolex, I felt like I needed another watch for wearing to the deer lease or any places I was worried about taking my rolex. I like the tudor sub, but prefer the vintage snowflake and patinas that you can get on the older watches and actually found a guy on reddit that makes them using seiko parts. I was able to get it for ~$300 and it has been a really great watch so far. I get tons of compliments on it.

I have not worn a watch in a while but I have a nice Seiko and have been wearing them since the early 80s. I only need to know the time from a watch.
