PSA - Check your first aid kits

Make sure to audit your IFAKs, I keep a couple trauma kits (each car, hunting pack and house) around and a general first aid in the main family car. Just went through and had to toss some stuff that was expired. With hunting season coming up make sure what you're carrying with you is still good if you ever needed to use it

Thanks for the reminder. It's easy to lose track when you don't use them all the time.

Zip ties make a handy tourniquet if you don't have a dedicated one.... and they don't take up much space at all.

And they are quick to apply. Great tip!

I'd just let the ER sort it out. Plyers, scalpel, scissors, etc.

Same way they get off any blood stopping device. Cut it off when they are ready to do surgery

The heat wreaks havoc on anything adhesive too, band aids and such. Probably expires ointments and things more rapidly I'd imagine.

If you don’t have something I highly recommend you do. If you aren’t comfortable building your own I’ve used these two companies for years. And if you’re gonna have something learn to use it

Be prepared. Carry a trauma kit. Stop the Bleed and start the breathing. Every Day Trauma Training and easy to use Trauma Kits and Individual First Aid Kits (IFAK)

North American Rescue provides the most effective and highest quality mission critical medical products, decreasing preventable deaths in the field.

Learning to use the equipment is extremely important. A first aid CPR class is just a start. Stop the bleed is a very good class for tourniquet and wound packing.

About twice a year I go through my kits to update and address weaknesses in my kits. I use them all the time so it's a constant turnover in smalls and meds.

For years we went along without any need for first aid items, but then the grand kids started coming around. I have recently added kits to each vehicle as everyone knows, a band aids cannot only stop bleeding, it stops tears.

                          Great post!!

I never even thought about having a serious IFAK until my daughter and I started hunting in the mountains. All I ever carried for myself was athletic tape and gauze pads.
I realized that I didn't want to stand there and watch her die because I didn't have something that I EASILY could have brought.
Now my kit has 2x tourniquets, 2x chest seals, 2x zigzag compressed gauze, etc.

Just don’t use the steel ones!
