    Cost for 5 acre pond

I'm looking to build a 5 acre fishing pond in old pasture land and trying to figure out a ballpark amount i should expect to spend. Has anyone done this lately or have an idea?

What kind of soil? TheTerrain has alot to do with price.

A tank would be a much better option. Ponds have jogging trails, park benches and fancy fountains.

You need to call out some folks for estimates and have them evaluate your soil type and drainage flow. We had a small tank built a few years back and a lot of factors play into it depending on where you dig.

Depends on depth and if you're going to do it yourself of have it done. I did most of my on dozer work with a rented dozer, but I did hire a guy do build the first 1 1/2 acre tank and it was 5k.

Tanks are above the ground and are made of materials other than soil

I might need to talk to your guy. Quote about 5 years ago for 2.5 acre that was way northt of that and it was a partial dug pit where we sold some select fill for a road project. North Louisiana.

10 K just gets it going. Im sure it would be easily double that, more like 3 times. Just going off of getting my ponds cleaned & made bigger.

Mine wasn't cheap but I also used guys that did it for a living, of course afterwards everybody knows someone that can do it cheaper.......can't remember cost nor did I shop it out I knew I wanted them to do it. Mine is about 2 acres and was 30 ft deep in middle but of course with water coming in, etc.....it's not that deep now but still deep but I get a lot of runoff. Huge pond was built north of us on hwy 377 and after rains saw they busted open the dam and are completely doing it over, not sure what happened but I would put it in the lake price not a stock pond.....

I hear ya, I was thinking that what we were looking at since it was a pit already. We were at dang near at $25K and that was not even with improved levee's and other ammenities. Needless to say we did two days of dozer work and made a bad azz wood duck sanctuary for 10 months out of the year. The other two they are on their own The creek pick is on the back side of this pond not tank during last years drought. We were lucking and had a little rain and never ran ou of water on the farm. Had a half dozen or so places like the creek but it was close to dry, over 2 miles of creek was bone dry. Click image for larger version

But ponds are fishable, tanks are for cattle to mud up.
