Too many variables to say but I could easily see a 5 acre pond getting above six figures.

If you have a naturally sloping area that will hold water and all you need is a levy and a spillway you could get by cheaper.

My dad had one dug in rock about 7 years ago that's only a half acre and he paid about $50k for it. You can't tell him anything when he decides on something. His had a lot of dirt work, plastic liner, and he put a concrete levy and spillway in.

Depends on a lot of factors, but in general about $15k-20k/acre. or about $5K /acre ft. @ $3/yard

Then you get into spillways, overflows, watershed, etc

That’s like asking what does a pretty woman look like to you ? We all know what an ugly one looks like.

Pretty much what everyone else said, I had about 1/3ac dug a couple of yrs ago. Sand to about 3-4' deep then clay. A little over $7000. At a smaller scale like mine I'm sure it's a little more per acre due to eqpt moving costs etc, but if I was forced to guess I would expect very roughly $25k

On edit, I was thinking you said 2ac, my bad. At that point I dont know. Guessing, and literally just a guess above $60k. And that's pretty much a useless guess based on scale

This is a link to the one I built. This is a 1.87 acre pond. Yours would be more than double so there is a lot more dirt to be moved than mine. It took them right at 25 days running two 750 Dozers, two 18 yard scrapers pulled by a JD9600, and a 120 Case excavator.

Call your county USDA-NRCS office and talk to either a range specialist, ag engineer, or district conservationist. They know who's legit and more importantly they know who the clown shows are.

I’m digging a 1.5 acre pond/tank😀 on my high fenced placed where I’m going to put some Axis and Fallow deer. I’m using my own equipment and it’s just costing me diesel to run the thing. I’ve built reservoirs 50 acres in size on our turf farms that took months to dig and using are own equipment cost a small fortune. I’ll post a pic of my small tank when I get back out there the rain has been a pain lately. Any way I bet a tractor with a 18yd scraper could dig a 5 acre pond in 2 weeks at 200.00 bucks an hour 12-14 hour days as long as he doesn’t have to haul the dirt very far. Mennonite’s love to dig ponds

We are close to 50k for a one acre mud hole right now….

I’m betting yours will be over 100k if its done right.

Not usre if this is comparable, but I have an acre and a half pond that leaks. Had a company that builds and repairs ponds come out and look to see what it would cost me to stop the leak. Because of the rocky area where my pond is and the work needed, plus using a pond liner (only way they would gaurantee the leak would stop) was $55,000. this was a year and a half ago!

IMO only use someone who does this for a living and not just a bulldozer guy - I have seen a number of people have a pond built by someone that did not specialize in it and they regretted it -

also if you have clay soil you will be way ahead - do you have a creek feeding it or just run off??

100,000 for a tank that some yankee city boy is going to call a pond? I'm out.

                            I would figure 100k minimum.
We dug one in 2008 that was just under five acres and 30' deep. They lined it with the blue clay they hit around 20' feet or so. It was 40k then.

When they got over about a half acre we always called them "ponds". Under that, they were "tanks". I learned to swim and fish in a "tank". When we got to fish in a "pond" we thought we were bigtime!
