So with a word like persnickety, broken down we have "per" and "snickety". "Per", meaning according to an individual subject, person, place, or thing. And "snickety", from the Oxford English Dictionary, which is used .01 times per million words. And "snickety" becomes and adj. from the word "snicket" meaning a narrow passage way or alley (Merriam-Webster). Therefore, I can only conclude, since "persnickety" is in the present tense of a like pathway or alley like, there must also be a pre-snickety and post-snickety, with "Presnickety" meaning before the pathway or alley. And "postsnickety" meaning after the pathway or alley." So, before going down the next rabbit hole, (rabbit presnickety), i.e. "rabbit persnickety" for the present, lets understand the full usage of word origins and what they really means or meant so I don't have to define the actual meaning of a word (postsnickety)? I mean, it only stands to reason, right? Now, please carry on.Last edited by Texas Grown; 06-06-2024, 06:14 PM.
