LaLa’s in Mirando City (mentioned above). It was still open as of this past January when I ate there. Just don’t ask for sour cream and you’ll be fine lol. We did tequila shots with the owner, she’s a trip

        LOL

Mexican food needs lots of cheese! And they shouldn't serve hamburgers in a Mexican restaurant.

A few places in Mt. Pleasant are authentic. (Mexico Restaurant, Lala's, Regina's, Restaurante La Fogata). There are a few others in our area.

Benito’s in Ft Worth! It’s not Tex Mex, it’s more like food you would actually get in Mexico.

Try the chicken sopas; thank me later!!!!!!!!

Is that little joint in Tivoli still there? Canales or something like that?

Cheese enchiladas with chile con carne and onions. Best in the world. Nowhere else does it like them.

I have a buddy who would always get burgers when we'd go eat Mexican. He swore that they were some of the best burgers because they're cooked on the same grill as all the Mexican food and gave them a unique flavor. I always argued If I wanted something that tasted like fajitas I would just get fajitas and never tried the burgers. But they're on the menu because people do buy them.

The most authentic and some of the best Mexican food I've ever had came from a semi permanent food trailer in Houston that has since burned down, a roach coach that used to come by where I worked and a taqueria inside of a Mexican grocery store.

You are correct about Benito’s. Plus, there’s likely at least a dozen more taquerias on Hemphill St that qualify as old school Mexican food. It would be interesting to try them all out
