Recommendations for an overhead hoist/winch in a shop?

I'm having a small shop built (almost finished). I had them put in an outlet overhead on one of the cross beams (drill stem pipe). I did that in hopes of adding an overhead electric winch or hoist. All of the winches are 12v so I guess I would have to put a battery setup inside somewhere and wire in it. Any other options for using like a harbor freight ATV winch or similar?

Or should I go with a true electric hoist that plugs into the outlet?

Would mostly be used for cleaning deer and hogs or lifting items out of my truck or Mule bed from time to time (gotta have shoulder replacement surgery in the future so I need all the help I can get).

    What would y'all do?

I'll try to find a pic of the overhead. This was a pipe stem/pole barn (awning) that is being converted into a 20x40'ish shop.

The red box is where the outlet is and where I'll probably mount the hoist/winch.

    Any input would be appreciated.

I have this one in my shop. I use it for skinning and quartering deer. I also lift the front of my zero turn to clean under the mower deck. It works great.

Look at the electric winches from northern tool, I wouldn’t buy one from harbor freight.

Bobby, we put 2 110v winches in our skinning shed and they have been great! That’s what I’d do for that type of setup. I’ll try to get you the details. We even mounted them on a slide of sorts so they could move back n forth a bit.

I have one from harbor freight just like Arrowsmith above, only mine is bigger, like 880# maybe. It is 110v and plugs into an outlet on the ceiling. It’s been there for about 6yrs and still going strong.

FIL has the 2000k version on one side of his welding shop. Its probably close to 20 years old and I know its been overloaded a few times.

This! We have three under a roof for only 20 years. They’ll probably crap out any year now. Spend twice the money on something that will last.😂

This is the one I have. It’s been going strong for 6yrs, outside, but under a cover (see pic in my post above).

Thanks for all the info guys. Appreciate it. My only concern is figuring out to mount it to that pipe if it comes with some set brackets that don't fit.

Shane...I researched wenches one time. Got one. Lasted 10 years. Cost me a bunch of money!

Use u bolts on the pipe. Just take a piece of steel and fabricat a back plate. We use the harbor freight hoist at the shop all day everyday and have yet to have a problem.

Drill two holes in the pipe and bolt it if you don’t have access to a welder.

I have been thinking about this recently for my new place. Even thought about pulling out one of my jib cranes here and moving it up there, but decided it wasnt worth the trouble and bought a chain hoist 2000lb and will buy a gantry for it when I move up there. Will be much more portable and dont have to worry about the power issue.
