    Cast Net

Who remembers what brand the blue cast nets with the rubberized weight that Academy used to have were?
I had mine for 14 years before it got tore up.

what durable cast nets do y’all recommend?

Betts. Get the heavy one. I think it’s 1.25# a ft

My son designed these chain bottom nets. They are outstanding.

I wish I would have known about these ^^^^. I just bought the one Walmart sells last Friday. I’m sure it won’t last long then maybe I will give this chain one a try.

Looked at them, do you know the weight per ft, site doesn't say. I like them and the fact it's an individual doing it. $4.90 in shipping is a good rate too. Where is your son at, nets ?

Thanks Glen, you are absolutely right, I looked up "Betts" and that's exactly what I had. They cost about $20 more too now though

can I use salt water cast net for fresh water? almost all I can find are salt water.
Anyone know where to get a 7' mono for a little cheaper than big box stores?

Wish I could help more. It depends on how many snags you'll encounter.

But most nets are cheap these days. I went through 5 or 6 last year and 2 this year. Some hold up and some tear on a tiny snag. But it doesn't seem to be the same brand that holds up year/year.

Betts are good though but I won't use a really good costly net where I fish, too many snags.

As far as “won't they snag more” , it is a Net and more worserer ( East Tx) than jumper cables so IMO it doesn’t matter.

I'm liking the weights not getting up into the lines and getting twisted up in them......taco toss......still want to know weight per foot it's not on website that I saw.

He said the weight per foot is 3/4lb per foot. Its a shallow water cast net. He is just outside of College Station.

Valid questions, which one are you referring to?

There is no difference other than generally speaking a saltwater net is heavier per foot but the type of water has no bearing on use....heavier weights and size of net holes affect sink rate and many saltwater nets may have larger "holes" for faster sink rate.....normal freshwater is 3/8 inch for shad......that's why the question posed earlier.......
