    Brush hogging price per acre

Working on quoting a customer, this will be my first time
brush hogging want to make sure I’m in the ball park.
I’ve got a 6 footer running it with a 45hp tractor. Hasn’t been mowed in about a year and is about 2-3ft tall but not terribly thick. Terrain is relatively flat, there is couple small locust trees I will be take out before doing the job
to reduce chances of a flat tire out.
21 acres total. I’m around $95 per acre in my head, want to see what the green screen thinks. Estimating about 12-13 hours of my time and about 14-15 gallons of fuel. Drive time would be 45mins round trip

Call others and get a quote. LOL

I'd probably charge by the hour. $120/hr maybe more. Pray there are not hidden rocks, stumps etc.

I charge $100/per acre for up to 2ft tall grass, anything taller is $125/acre. Trees and obstacles make a difference as well. Charging per hour has always been problematic for me when giving quotes. Be sure to use Google maps or OnX and calculate the acreage and not rely solely on what the customer tells you.

I would evaluate what needed cutting and the amount of obstacle, base an estimated time to complete based on that. Use that and your desired hourly rate to calculate a price per acre.

yup, I used google earth to pull up her land. There’s no trees at all. I do lawn care so I’m with you on not charging by hour. You will get customers asking why you mowed over twice, or why did you take a long break , etc. I’m glad to know I’m in the ballpark at least on price.

I have done that, lol. Checking my competition. I walked the place yesterday to make sure it was all dry.

Charge by the acre but try to make $125/hr. I would do 13hr @$130 since most jobs always seem to take longer than you think. Keep up with your machine hours on this job so you can find your actual acres/hr.

When doing less than a full day, I would charge a delivery/transportation fee... 250-300

$2000 to mow 21 acres sounds high to me but hey, if they will pay it go for it

Thats what I was thinking also. If it's only grasses and no brush banging, it can probably be mowed in 2nd and High gear.

But that doesn't matter I suppose, it's what the going rate is for the area.

If any of brushoggers need a batwing mower have one listed in classifieds.

Off topic. How sharp should the blades be on a brush hog?

Good luck, bottom feeders are charging that for a skidsteer and mulcher.....and going broke. You have to ask yourself sometimes, would you pay someone that much?

If someone is willing to pay 1600/day to get 10 acres cut, thats a win....but dont consider it the norm for bush hog work. I wouldnt pay that much.

yup, not a chance in the world I would pay that, but I have no idea what the going rate is. would have to be 20 acres of high brush and tallow and stuff before I'd even start to think that price was reasonable. The fact that another guy is suggesting to shoot for $125-$130 an hour to cut grass is mind blowing to me, but if people are willing to pay it, more power to them.

That is high compared to the market.

I pay $80-120/hr depending on the property and haul in/haul out. That is 100hp+ tractors with 16' shredders. A bat wing can cover a couple acres per hour.
