So you provide a place for your deer to eat away from where you are hunting, while you are hunting them, during season?

We do not hunt them to help reduce pressure as well. We try to time it where they run dry when the season starts. Then re-fill in late January. All of our feeders are free choice protein feeders. We have 2-2,000lbs -‘1-1,000 feeder on about 600 acres, low fence.

I guess I just disagree. Im trying to keep the deer healthy and happy so I can kill them. Not so they feel safe. If my target buck is coming to protein all summer and then I stop feeding protein before the season starts…… who knows where he is now. I’m a big fan of feeding deer and watching deer. Im a bigger fan of tricking one into thinking he’s safe when I’m trying to kill it.

I do not think there is a right or wrong, we have a few hundred acres of fairly thick bedding area, we do no have any feeders in that part of ranch and we rarely go into that area, we will also have numerous food plots so the deer will have ample food, may make the hunting a little tougher because of all the food, my goal is to create an awesome wildlife habitat and to try and grow really big deer. If I do kill a big deer that will just be a bonus. One other thing about hunting protein feeders, I do not like the fact that you can bump deer while entering your stand at anytime, unless you have timed protein which is another topic.
