When we had this house built the thermostat was across the house and they recommended putting a thermostat puck in our bedroom that the thermostat reads also. It works well for us but we are there by ourselves 90% of the time.
On another note, some of the homes we were looking at prior to building this had a mini split on the upstairs loft or game rooms. These I am referring to were big homes so i didn’t know if that was the norm or not these days.

I do residential HVAC for a living, so I had access to any of the methods of better comfort in my master bedroom. I chose to do a mini split, and would never want to live without one now. Being able to keep my room at whatever temp I want without affecting the rest of the house is amazing.

I've been a dealer for mitsubishi, carrier, daikin, and LG. In my opinion, Daikin is the best by far for both reliability and parts availability. If the box says "hecho en China" run away. The off brands work fine when they are new, but anyone recommending one that can be had on Amazon or a Mr. Cool has probably never had to try to order a part for one.

I'm coming up on 4 years with the Daikin without a single issue.

thanks!! I was hoping you would chime in!!! Hell it might already be installed by the time I get home anyhow but wanted to ask. I’m not a Samsung fan after owning their appliances.

I've never dealt with a Samsung before.

I have a new level of bad taste in my mouth for LG after last week. Had a customer with a leak in the coil of a unit that was still under warranty, but it was discontinued with no available substitutions in existence. The customer had no choice but to replace the whole system.

I agree with you if you can afford it. We were looking at the difference in $ between DIY and a name brand. If I knew then what I know now, I'd have had the local HVAC contractor who did the 'rest' of our house in 2020 put in the mini-split. We live in a rural area, and Ken will not touch a Mr Cool unit, I can't blame him. It took me 6 months of calling to get the next closest HVAC service tech to come to our house. I'm hoping for the best going forward with the Mr Cool DIY.

That is the problem with all of the min split brands. They tell you about a great warranty "control board goes out, we will replace the entire head unit".... then three years in you go to get a new head under the warranty program and the new heads that are available are not compatible with the condenser....
