Thanks.

Anyone know how many counties were affected??

I've read "thousands" and estimates of "10-15,000", but I also read that the majority of cattle are in feed lots that are pretty isolated from the fires as mud doesn't burn. Tragic event, nonetheless.

I try to keep up with the meat packing side of things. Been retired for ten years or so and when I hung it up they were killing about 118,000 head per day in federally inspected plants. I did a quick check for last week and the number was 600,000 head for Monday through Saturday. My point was that compared to the normal slaughter rate, 10,000 to 15,000 isn't very significant. I was watching AgDay on tv early this morning and their experts were saying the same thing. It is devastating to the producers that lose the animals, but not much of a factor in the overall market.
